Dimished Returns

The election hasn't even happened yet and those on the left are already dumbing down their expectations.

In an interview with a Colorado radio station, Mr Obama appeared to be engaged already in expectation lowering. Asked about his goals for the first hundred days, he said he would need more time to tackle such big and costly issues as health care reform, global warming and Iraq. “The first hundred days is going to be important, but it’s probably going to be the first thousand days that makes the difference,” he said. He has also been reminding crowds in recent days how “hard” it will be to achieve his goals, and that it will take time."

Follow-up From Yesterday's Post

Yesterday I posted a piece about "spreading the wealth around" aka Obamanomics.  In that post I had mentioned a conversation I had had with a co-worker and how the definition of wealth was already being defined downwards.  Well apparetnly we're not the only ones that have picked up on this concept.  Neal Boortz has a few words to say about it as well and the term he uses is Imputed Income.

Taxing the Wealthy; Utopian Fantasy

The rich do not pay their fair share in taxes! There I said it. However they do in fact, they pay more than their fair, or should I say fare share, pun definitely intended. All of us by now know that some 2/5ths or roughly 40% of Americans pay no income taxes at all; zero, zip, nada, zilch. Additionally we all know that 5% of the top earning brackets pay way more than half of all federal taxes. Sadly that just doesn’t seem to be enough so what is a government to do. Well the answer lies in the phrase that I had coined some two weeks ago at townhall.com called Obamanomics.

As mentioned Obamanomics is, a political/ideological theory disguised as an economic one. It is Marxism at its best or in reality at its worst, each according to his ability to each according to his means, aka “spreading the wealth around” The idea that a government can stimulate the economy by punishing the wealthy is

nothing very new, but has yet to ever really succeed anywhere that it is tried. Just ask any Eastern European nation, whose governments are embracing capitalism with a passion, by passing flat-tax legislations, lowering corporate taxes. For example, Ireland now has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the world at around 12%, while the US ranks second on the world scale. As Amail Imani has stated in a piece written yesterday at American Thinker,

“Obama doesn't tell you that in the present world money is like water. It flows to the lowest ground. And the lowest ground for money is found in places where it can make more money -- not locations where it is seriously tapped by government…[he] doesn't tell you that rich people didn't get to be rich by being stupid. The minute they hear him talk about ‘"spreading the wealth around"’, they shift their money to safe havens where Obama can't get to it.”

All of this is the main thrust of this article, and that is the fact that (1), the wealthy will always find ways to pay less in taxes, and (2)corporations, sooner or later after having been taxed to death will finally give up in disgust and either move, or sell out as in the case of the owner of the Miami Dolphins, Mr. H. Wayne Huizenga who has stated,

‘“that he intends to sell up to half his ownership in the NFL franchise before next year. Why? Because as he told a Florida newspaper, Barack Obama "wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it. I'd rather give it to charity than to him."‘

So what is the net result here? Well for starters, where there is less cash flow there is less investment. Less investment means fewer opportunities for business owners to expand, which in turn results in less jobs. Following on the heels of this line of reason, less jobs means less people employed, and guess what less employment means; a smaller tax-base. All of this equals less revenue for the government coffers.

Secondly, let us look at increasing taxes on corporations. Have you ever gone into your local store and seen this cute little sign?

“we don’t charge taxes, we just collect them”

Well it has a great deal of truth behind it. Corporations will always, I repeat always, collect taxes, and then pass the cost off to the consumers. It’s that simple. However, there comes a time when a corporation becomes less financially secure each time there is an increase in taxes. If it continues to pass on the costs there exists the probability that said corporation will start to become unprofitable, that is to say, it will be forced to raise the cost of its item each time and thereby sell less items. IF you started to see increased prices in an item, you routinely purchased, would you not look elsewhere for a similar item at a cheaper price.

As mentioned above corporations are always on the lookout for having to pay less in taxes. I made note earlier above in this piece that Ireland with its 12% tax rate is becoming a corporate haven. How many jobs are going to be lost to overseas nations that have the foresight to continually lower tax-rates for business and citizens alike?

The other day, I had a conversation with a co-worker, and he had mentioned that already the defining downwards of what constitutes wealthy has already begun. I admitted that I hadn’t heard of anything until last evening when I came upon another piece at American Thinker. This little tidbit was based on interview with VPOTUS candidate Senator Joe Biden at WNEP-TV. We both concluded, that we’d soon be in this category if you factor in our benefits packages etc, which the IRS, would no doubt do under even more odious and heavier tax codes. How soon will it be before 75k is a threshold or 50k becomes the cut off point?

With the prospect of a congress controlled by a party whose appetite for spending seems to be insatiable, (admittedly Republicans fared little better), and a POTUS, whose tax policies will only increase that appetite we are faced with a rather gloomy economic future.

That is the reality, it’s not that complicated to understand but rather quite plain and simple, and it is most certainly not some utopian pipedream.

Beware and Be Forewarned

I have just read two reports about someone doing some dirty work by digging into Joe the Plumber's personal files. One report comes from Michelle Malkin's blogsite and the other I had received in an e-mail from the Laura Ingram site. Should the Socialists capture the White House this year, one can only look forward to more of the same.

It is amazing to me how all those folks that were so outraged with the Patriot Act, and howled the loudest about how it would put all their personal data at the mercy of government snoopers are strangely silent about this violation of one man's personal information. BTW, I have yet to hear of anyone ever making a similar claim about a violation through the Patriot Act.  Surely if someone had it would have been front-page news via the MSM. One more thought here; w
here is the ALCU, in all of this? Well, as I like to say, I hear only the crickets chirping.

Memo to Conservative Eggheads

Recently I have been criticizing the leaders of conservatism for abandoning their rank and file members who are made up of plain, simple, common folk, with common sense. I have called them nothing more than the tails side of an elitist coin whose opposite member is occupied the intelligentsia of the left.

I have also stated that both the followers, aka you, and me needed the leaders, aka “them”, in order to move conservatism forward. However I do believe after reading Peggy Noonan’s column in a WSJ article dated October 17, 2008, (and yes I am a bit behind in my reading) that I need to revise my thinking a bit and tweak the concept of mutual cooperation between those that lead and those that are led.

Quite simply the revision goes like this; they or “them” need us “you and me” more than we need them or “they”.

One only needs to witness as of late, the current outcries and daily assaults of the nor’-eastern conservatives on Governor Palin who falls into the category of you and me. These folks should be circling the wagons right about now instead of throwing her to the wolves.

In an article at American Thinker by J. Robert Smith we find that;

“…some of the slings and arrows aimed by the elites at Palin are simply because she's an outsider. By their standards, Palin isn't pedigreed. A sheepskin from the University of Idaho might as well be a GED to them. Unlike Obama, she's not part of their network, even indirectly. She's a practicing fundamentalist Christian, while many of the elites are secularists. She can use a gun and hunt moose. Many elites revile the 2nd Amendment and their hunting consists of finding the free-range chicken at Whole Foods. For elites, {on both sides} Palin is too plain-spoken and colloquial. Her gal next door demeanor grates. Her winks are cheesy. She's a hockey mom, not a soccer mom. Hockey's just too violent“.

Rush Limbaugh has recently stated that whatever the results of this election the conservative movement will survive and will rebuild. It will take time and we will no doubt have to once again start from the bottom up, but rebuild we shall.

If I might be allowed to use a sports analogy here; when a team is doing poorly, you can’t fire the team, you fire the coach or the manager. Is any of this sinking in to you folks?

So here’s the bottom line to all of you that profess to be our leadership. We, the members of conservatism ask of you the following; lead, follow or get out of the way!

1) Lead - as per the wishes of your members
2) Follow - come back/rejoin the rank and file
3) Get out of the way - as we can raise up new leaders that will represent us and where we stand on issues.

This is Indeed Priceless

Apparently ACORN is not exactly the goody-two-shoes organization the many of the left have been led to believe.

"Every day, there was pressure on us. Every single day," said Teshika Elder, a Cleveland single mom of three who worked for ACORN this summer.

"We had meetings every morning where they'd go over your quota; they'd yell at you if you were low," said Elder, 21. "They'd sit us down and say if you didn't do better, they'd suspend you. They'd say, 'Try harder next time,' [and] if you didn't get it, you'd be fired."

One commentator had this to say;

"Not only do they harrass their employees as the article states but they have also fired workers who have attempted to unionize even though ACORN is very pro-union. Doas I say, not as I do.
They also worked for a raise in the minimum wage in California several years ago. The measure passed but ACORN immediately filed with the state for an exemption. Oddly, the reason was that they couldn't hire as many workers, or may have to lay some off, if forced to pay more. What a wonderful marxist attitude."

Yes this is priceless indeed.

Backburner News Entry 41

If one has not noticed the price of oil has been slowly coming down.  Many factors are of course involved, but for the most part there has been a surplus of oil and as such market forces have done what they traditionally do; react.  Now this blogger reads that OPEC has gotten together and has decided to cut back production so as to decrease the supply.  It is my wonder if congress will summon them and point a finger at greedy OPEC nations.  More than likely there will be a new round of grilling the oil industry in this country instead.  Heck it's easier...

Attention: Open Memo to Townhall and AM 970 The Apple

Those posts with all the letters in them are links to Russian porno sites. How about staying on top of those?  I spent a good part of my morning composing posts only to see them knocked off by garbage!  I am certain that there are other bloggers who feel the same way. I am all for free speech, but this is nonsense and as providers of this site it is your duty to keep this sort of stuff off of here as it certainly does not provide any value, nor express any opinions. In fact it's just plain smut....

Respectfully Yours

I Make No Apologies

In my previous post, I spoke on the divide that is slowly emerging within the conservative movement. It is becoming more and more apparent that, as I have said that those conservatives that have become entrenched in the seats of spokesman-ship of the conservative movement are no better than a different side of the same elitist coin that has the Librosociocrats on the other side.

They have likewise gone away from what traditional conservatives really feel, and believe, and ignore and treat us no better than their liberal counterparts.

Here is where I stand, and I am drawing the line in the sand.

I am a fiscal conservative; I believe in less government spending on programs of dubious value. I am against pork and earmarks.

I am a small government conservative; I believe that less government leads to more individual freedom.

I am an attaining of the American dream conservative; that is to say that I believe everyone has a right to pursue the ultimate in freedom, the American dream is not a right in or of itself. I feel that there is a big enough pie for all to have a slice; some slices are bigger than others are and I do not begrudge them that slice. I have the right to pursue my own dream and allow it to take me as far as it or I can take me. I do not expect the government to hand it to me, for they can only take it away.

I am the “Joe the plumber” conservative; I work hard for what I earn and I believe others should do the same, there are no free rides. However, I am not without compassion for those who through no fault of their own cannot provide for themselves. The need for a safety net is one with which I agree and therein I feel that government working alongside of private charities can accomplish a great deal.

I am the religious conservative; yes I do indeed cling to my God. He is there in my times of need and want by providing for me and strengthening me during my trials and tribulations. He shares in my joys and carries me through my sorrows.

I am a second amendment conservative; I believe that all citizens of this wonderful nation have a right to own a firearm should they choose to own one. I personally do not own one, but I know I can should I ever change my mind.

I am a Constitution conservative; that is to say that I firmly support and believe in the US Constitution as it was originally written by our founding fathers There is no such thing as a living and breathing document. These men were of great intellect, and while it is certain that they could not see into the future, their words and thoughts certainly were meant to carry onward into the future by making allowances called “amendments” that would alter the things that they could not foresee. Clearly they understood what the meaning of their own words were meant say and translated their thoughts into those words. To paraphrase; they knew what the word “is” is, and understood that words have defined meanings period.

I am a pro-life conservative; the sanctity of life is utmost in my mind. Our Creator has given us the ability to create a life through the interactions of human beings. It is His second most precious gift to us. The first being the sacrifice of His own Son Christ Jesus in order to redeem us to Himself.

I am a free speech conservative; I am not politically correct. While I agree there are words we should not say or use, it is not due to political correctness but is out of respect for another human being. Dignity and respect should be tied to free speech. As God’s Word says, “Do unto others as you’d have done unto you”. Yet there are those who choose to use derogatory words, and as such their actions define them, “for out of the mouth the issues of the heart speak, it is what comes out of the mouth of a person that defiles him”. This being said it is still their right to speak thusly. Those of us with even a grain of commonsense will recognize them for what they truly are instead of who they portray themselves to be.

This is who I am. I am flyover country. I am average Joe that goes to church on Sundays. When I do party its not with cocktails and mixed drinks or hobnobbing with the upper crust of society. It’s with my neighbors, co-workers, friends and we might have a few beers. I am a traditionalist, call me old-fashion if you will but it has stood the test of time.

I am the face of American conservatism.
