Blind Following the Blind

After reading this piece at Michelle Malkin’s website, I immediately had a number of thoughts about these organizations.

Number one - It seems that these groups are being organized and are trying to use the power of the Federal Government to silence all opposition. In particular talk radio and conservative websites. It seems that the concept, if not the actual, Fairness Doctrine is very much alive.

Number two - As a conservative I have constantly heard from the left shouts of “separation of church and state”, yet here we have church groups, (supported by others) that are actively seeking the FCC to impose regulations, sanctions and fines. Where is that outcry now I ask?

Number 3 - I have stated elsewhere that I have known Liberal leaning Christians. Many, I have observed have a sincere desire to do good for their fellow man, and are probably not much interested in the politics of the people that are running these organizations. That being said, I do find however that the major tenet of the Bible, especially in the New Testament that appears lost on them. Those tenets being;

a) Christ is Savior
b) Salvation is obtained through grace
c) Grace is given to us freely through God the Father

They seem to confuse the message of Christ with one of brotherly love, (which is a good thing), with salvation, (which is even better). Perhaps I am wrong, but it would seem to be the message Liberal Christians send. While I understand their desire to do good works, which as the apostle James has said in his Epistle is linked to being a good follower of Christ, I just get the feeling that they focus too much on that, and not on Grace. Understand that I do NOT question their sincerity, but I do wonder about how they prioritize the message they receive. While both are essential as you cannot separate one from the other, the emphasis seems to be more on former than the latter.

Number 4 - I am reminded here of three scriptures.
Job 9:31
Psalms 7:15
Matthew 15:14

All three mention falling into a ditch, the latter of the three referencing the concept that those that lead and those that follow are both blind. One might be inclined to call them kindred spirits. Each supporting the other, yet headed for disaster.

Conservatism; The New Party for the Littleman

A long time ago, and up until recently, the two party system represented the people. They were supportive of various demographics, that included such thing as income, locations, employment etc.

The Democrat Party represented the small farmers, (as opposed to the large corporate ones), the mom and pop stores across the nation. Garment workers, factory workers. The local main street stores, that employed hourly wage earners and the wage earners themselves too.

The Republican Party on the other hand represented the movers and shakers. The larger businesses and businessmen and women. This was a time during which the corporations actually produced something, such as automobiles, TV sets, radios, clothing, and much more items that could be brought to the free market.

While there existed differences, the one thing that both parties agreed upon was that capitalism that is to say the free market economy, supplied not only just the needs of the people, but their desires. Neither party could ever envision the destruction of such a system or the implementation of a communal, or command economy such as Communism or Socialism, (which is the former’s, lightweight brother) Hard work by the wage earner, and a willingness by the investor’s seemed to always produce the desired result. That result was the raising of the standard of living for all, by all.

Was there poverty? Indeed so! Did social injustice exist? Without a doubt, and yet, as busy as Americans were they still found the time and means to help ease and solve these problems.

Church groups, civic organizations, (to an extent in the early part of the 20th century, unions), and other fine, and likeminded citizens banded together to make America not only stronger, but a much more freer society than has ever been in existence.

The two parties each drew on their collective strengths to work together towards a better America.

And yet, here we are in the 21th century, and we as a nation are heading towards disarray, destruction and a way of life that our ancestors; those that have proceeded us along the American trail would find beyond belief.

Both parties, Democrat and Republican have become entrenched in the halls of power. They have become a ruling elite, whose view of the common man, is one of contempt and distain. They are both opposite sides of the same elite coin.

Corporations have become mega-giants, of whom many are just paper shufflers. We, as a nation, no longer really produce anything. Farms are being bought up, and then subsidized and have likewise become big business.

Those parties that once actually represented their constituencies no longer even listen to them. In fact they wish to impose their will upon the people, instead of working for the people.

So what is left? The answer is one word; Conservatism.

Over the past several months we have seen “we the people” demonstrating across the nation. Many are members of both parties, or perhaps were members, but can no long identify with them as they are both out of touch with the public.

The Democrat party has been taken over by radical leftists, who see America not as a land of opportunity, wherein ALL can make a go of it for their life’s dreams. Instead they see a nation, (that does not exist), a racist nation, one of social injustice, economic injustice. They feel that they and ONLY they can make things better by making everybody equally miserable, instead of allowing the individual to prosper, to seek and to achieve and to reach for the heights.

The Republicans, what can I say, other than they represent huge corporate interests, whose only goals are to control larger slices of the pie. (I know I’ll take some heat on this, for yes I believe there are companies that seek only to be profitable). Additionally I see the Republicans as Democrat light. Another elite power block, willfully ignoring the wishes of the electorate.

As the Bible says;

“They have all aside; they are all together become filthy. There is none that doeth good, no not one”
Psalm 14:3

“Everyone of them is gone back; they are all together become filthy. There is none that doeth good, no not one” Psalm 53:3

For these reasons and I am certain many more exist are why I call upon all Americans to seek out the tenets of Conservatism. Most of us are traditional hard workers. Small business people who desire to be profitable and provide opportunity for others to work, and possibly achieve their own prosperity. We are farmers, delivery truck drivers, field workers, etc. We share a common belief that hard work pays for itself, and there is no free ride to success.

Moreover we share basic religious beliefs as well. Most of us are Christians, yes, but it does not exclude other faiths from participating in the American dream. We, as people, have more in common with each other that we have differences.

The above mentioned differences, however are exploited by both parties. They use them to divide us and to put us at each other’s throats. They use fear, envy, class warfare, and much more to keep the electorate in a state of confusion and enmity towards one another.

Please folks, I know that I am probably preaching to the choir, but I urge all of you, who have not done so, read your constitution. See what powers are allotted to the feds and those that are ours. Become active in local situations, such as school boards, chambers of commerce groups. Seek out other likeminded people that are tired, make that sick and tired of the elites in DC, running roughshod over us.

Remember as I have said we have more in common than not.

Signing Away Our Sovereignty

I am certian that the below has already been seen elsewhere, but I figure it doesn't hurt to keep the ball roling
Hat tip to Ms. Christina Peterson for making me aware of this vid.

What bothers me most is that nations like China will get a pass. They will be allowed to grow in all ways, and we will be diminished. Our buffoon will no doubt sign this thing. Moreover, even if China does sign it, it is this writer’s opinion they will not live up to it anyway. They will find ways to get around most of the provisions.

This is going to be worse than the Kyoto treaty, which even President Clinton couldn’t get done.

(Btw, as an added little tidbit, a report about Kyoto, in the WSJ, from June 2001 has probably not seen the light of day, which is consistent with MSM)

Now, IF PREZBO does sign it, can we talk impeachment for failing to honor his oath to DEFEND AND PROTECT the US Constitution?

Does not the Senate have to ratify this thing? I hope that the dimwits will realize what this will do to their OWN power and vote it down overwhelmingly

What's a Fella to Do?

During the 1980’s there was a commercial for a company known as Polaner All Fruit wherein a young man is seated at a fine dinning table, surrounded by what at first appears to very wealthy, and obviously elite group of peers.

As he watches the action, each of the diners is asking someone to pass the Polaner. However, when he opens his mouth we here this extremely drawled accent, (actually it reminded me of Jethro Bodine of the “Beverley Hillbillies”) asking for someone to “please pass the jelly” whereupon mouths and jaws drop, forks fall from hands, and a woman swoons. To make the entire commercial a bit funnier, he speaks yet again saying;

“What’s a fella gotta do to get some of thet jelly?

Somehow, this makes me think of the current government Oaf-fish- als and to a somewhat lesser extent major corporation, that currently reside in the halls of power.

It is as if we’re all sitting around this government table watching the elitist politicians just helping themselves to taxpayer monies, passing this and that along to one another, and when the poor country bumpkin asks for a piece of the pie, they look at him with confusion, distain and outright contempt.

I admit that I get rather discouraged. We have big Corporations, siding with the left; just keep themselves in business.

I oft times find myself wishing that a movement to just take our business elsewhere would flourish on a national level, as I believe the conservative party is now the party of the little man.

Republicans, Democrats, huge corporations, they all seemed to be stacked against “we the people”.

It seems to me that the folks that have become all powerful thanks in no part from the average Joe view that same average Joe with distain and contempt.

As the guy in the commercial said, “what’s a fella gotta do?”

Faith

Matthew 9:21 - 22, 28 - 29
21 For she said in herself, If I may touch but his
garment only, I shall be whole.
22 Then Jesus turned him about, and seeing her,
did say, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath
made thee whole. And the woman was made whole
at that same moment.)
28 And when he was come into the house, the blind
came to him, and Jesus said unto them, Believe ye
that I am able to do this? And they said unto him,
Yea, Lord.
29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According
to your faith be it unto you.

Mark 2:5
Now when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the
sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.

1 Peter 1:5, 8 - 9
5 Which are kept by the power of God through
faith unto salvation, which is prepared to be showed
in the last time.
8 Whom ye have not seen, and yet love him, in
whom now, though ye see him not, yet do you believe,
and rejoice with [joy] unspeakable and glorious,
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation
of your souls.

1 Peter 5:7
7 Cast all your care on him: for he careth for
you.

A Moment Frozen in Time

There was song by Alan Jackson that was recorded almost immediately after 9-11-2001 titled “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?”

I know a lot of people here at this site and others across the country are going to be writing on this topic today. Many of us will be silently thinking of where we were indeed.

For me, I was working for the USPS at the Archer Ave. Station in Queens NY. I was listening on my little radio that morning sitting at the letter size case, casing mail for that morning’s delivery.

When the first reports came in it was believed to have been a small commuter plane that had somehow lost control and hit the WTC. But that was quickly dispelled by eyewitness reports that had started pouring in the station I had been listening to that day. Additionally, within the hour I’d say came the reports of Flight 93, and the attack on the US Pentagon.

A few of us went up to the LIRR platform and could see the plumes of smoke rising from the first tower. The station had a cross over bridge that was used for connecting to various trains and so afforded a good view, being only about five miles away from what would later be called ground zero.

There already many other folks there as well, and we stood in unbelieving silence as we were watching the events unfold. My group headed back to our station probably right around the time the second plane hit so I did not see that, but found out by the time we got back to the station.

The TV that was in the lobby, was blaring loudly as customers and employees watched in horror as the first tower came down and later on when the second fell too.

No one, to my recollection, of those events of was ashamed to be an American that day.

For me, the words “Let’s Roll” will forever in my mind be equal to FDR’s famous line’ A Day of Infamy”

So as the song asks; Where were you?

Don't Feel Too Secure

For those of you that are government employees, either on the local, state or federal level, listen up.

You may think that a single payer health plan will not effect you.

Let me preface the above by stating that my own employer (the USPS) has a good health package, that allows me to chose from various insurance companies and HMO‘s . I am certain that the same exists for local and state employees.

However I would not get too complacent with this benefit. As you know, every company, every government agency is feeling the effect of the economy. They are all cutting back. Do not for a minute think that should a National Healthcare Plan passes, that these same agencies won’t toss our plans under the bus to cut costs.

It will happen in the private sector first, but it will COME down to us too. As the various governments seek to reduce costs, that will be one of the first things that will be jettisoned

The USPS vs. Private Sector and the Misconception Made of Postal Workers

Bookmark and Share
This is an aside thought to an article at American Thinker. I did not wish to go off topic at AT so I have posted here at my Blogsites

First let me repeat and say as I did at American Thinker, that the analogy is well made and the point well taken. President Obama’s presentation of a US Federal takeover of the healthcare industry by comparing it to the USPS is not accurate in any way, especially when one reads the actual part of the bill dealing with private insurers.

Secondly many of you would be surprised to find out that a great number of us, while perhaps not fully conservative, lean right of center. A lot are traditional conservative Democrats, in the old Zoe Miller mold. (I myself and a full-fledged conservative, but that is unimportant).

That being said I am going to present a view that puts Postal employees in a positive light.

As an employee of the USPS, I can understand the resentment many people have of us due to long lines, waiting times, damaged packages, late delivery of mail, etc. That is only one view consistently presented by people from all walks of life and political leanings.

Good amounts of us are hard working individuals that are just trying to put bread on our tables and provide for our families just the same as everyone else does each day. Do you recall those days during which you yourself would not set foot outside because it is too hot, too cold, raining, snowing, unless you absolutely had to get somewhere? Yet you see your letter carrier out there delivering mail and doing his or her job. How many of you have had to deal with the public on a day to day basis, face to face, one on one, and try to explain why they can or cannot mail a letter this way or that way. Have any of you had to deal with customers whose command of the English language is far from stellar? Admittedly some of our own employees are likewise deficient in that area, but not very many in the total picture.

Yes, the lines are long, but that is likewise due to cutbacks that are similar in the private sector and in fact are caused by the private sector in so far as lesser volume, that you do not hear about. I would agree that a cutback in customer services is the area that should not be allowed, but even as I write this, we are seeing the closing of smaller finance stations and the cutting back of window personnel. There is talk of going to a 5-day delivery week.

Recently some employees in NJ have been sent letters stating that they are being reassigned and have 60 days in which to chose an office to be forcibly transferred to in order to maintain employment. Some of those offices are located 500 miles away.
(Personally I think that for many folks this could be a blessing in disguise, NJ has an extremely higher cost of living)

I am quite certain that the general public thinks we are vastly overpaid. That the letter carriers, are no more than beasts of burden and the window clerks are just glorified cashiers similar to those employed at fast food chains. (BTW, this is NOT a knock on those that do that, they work just as hard as we do if not harder for a lot less).

I will not argue that I am paid well; In fact I am thankful that it is so. Nevertheless, I did live in NY and the cost of living there was so high as to virtually nullify my paycheck. However, I digress from my digression. I just ask those of you in the general public, even considering the rough economic times we’re in, would you consider getting up to go out and work on a frigid day to deliver mail in Chicago, or Detroit, or on a day with a heat index well into the lower hundreds in Galveston, or Miami, for minimum wage? BTW, our counter parts in UPS and FedEx are equally well paid. Therefore, I do not think that there is a comparison that can be made in that area.

I do not believe the public is aware of our government-protected monopoly on the delivery of first class mail. Indeed, we are protected in that way, but I would welcome UPS and/or FedEx to present a viable delivery plan of their own. I have yet to see such plans ever put forward. I would likewise be interested to see any plan put forward that would allow for the privaterization of the USPS. Again, neither of the other two major players has come forward. We are talking about the delivering of mail to millions of households on a daily basis, six days (so far) a week.

Additionally this would entail the sorting and distribution of BILLIONS of letters, both first class and bulk-rate each day as well, the majority of which is processed at night. Both companies IF such a move were to be made would have to increase the size of their workforces. A good thing yes indeed, but do not think for one moment that it would not drive up the cost of mailing. Basic economics 101, would ensure that those costs would be passed off onto the customer.

There were other companies that were once in the mailing business; DHL and Airborne come to mind. They are now gone as far as I know, or were absorbed by either UPS or FedEx. Therefore, it is not the USPS that put them under. Far from it. In fact the USPS had had contracts with both those companies at one time. We currently have contracts with FedEx and UPS as well although to be honest I am not knowledgeable in the details of those aforementioned contracts. Although I do know that they drop ship their packages at our offices from time to time and we then deliver them to their customers. Of what we get in return I am not certain.

Again I am not stating that the analogy by Corey Genelin is a poor one, in fact quite the opposite is true. I am however tired of the impression presented to the general public (put forth by both political sides), that the USPS employs malcontented, uneducated, useless drones or dolts.

Summer Suggestions

My Summer Reading List, or Books and/or Authors to Read From an Avid yet, Blatantly Biased Conservative Reader

Last week Newsweek came out with a reading list which to be fair included a various number of fiction/non-fiction books. I looked at the list and unless I missed it, there did not seem to be any books by conservative authors. This struck me, as rather strange considering the top book in the country for the last 14 weeks was absent. #

The above being said, I have decided to make my own personal choices for summer reading. Yes they will indeed be mostly conservative authors, (please note the above title to relieve any doubts). There are also a couple of fictional writers as well. My list will not be 100 books long in fact it will be rather short, as the summer is only about 2 -3 months worth of time, and let’s be honest, not a one of us wants to spend the entire summer endlessly reading, nor to I believe we would be able to do so.

Now, before getting into my list, I will say here and now that the BIBLE is not on it What you might say, God’s word is NOT included? Outrageous, bordering on scandalous! Therefore, here is my reason; The Bible is a book that is best read DAILY! In fact I maintain a companion Blogsite at Townhall.com (He Speaks to Me) in which I try to make posts daily. Just as an aside I will state here that I am currently posting a devotional study of the Book of Psalm. I do not necessarily comment but I do present cross references and related scripture as well as translations for words from either the Hebrew or Greek language, using Strong’s concordance. Additionally I define words using Webster’s Dictionary.#

“Enough!” say you, “move on with the list, I am not getting younger here and you’re cutting into my tanning time!”
As you wish and without further distraction please find below my choices. #

1. Liberty and Tyranny - Mark R. Levine
This is necessary read and I suggest to be read before all others on the below list, for all conservatives that are concerned with the direction that this country has taken in the last several months. It is as if Mr. Levin had a crystal ball and was able to foresee all that has so far come to pass. Written mostly prior to the 2008 election Mr. Levin has nailed all that is going currently going down.

2 Liberal Fascism - Jonah Goldberg
I personally have not read this as of this writing but it is very next on my list. I have heard a couple of interviews with Mr. Goldberg and believe that he is on the same page as the above-mentioned Mr. Levin

3 Conscience of a Conservative & Why Not Victory - The late former Senator Barry Goldwater

I have placed both of these together simply because I felt that they compliment each other. However I suggest that one read the former first before reading the latter.

4. Marcus Aurelius - Meditations
A good source for moral guidance

5. 1984 Gorge Orwell
It has been a number of years since I have read this, however one retains the basics of the book and can see parallels into today’s American society

6 Harry Turtledove - Author
If one enjoys history, then one will enjoy alternate history, and Mr. Turtledove is a master in this field. He has written volumes of works, but my favorite is the Timeline 191 series#, which include The Great War Trilogy, The American Empire Trilogy, and The Settling Accounts Tetralogy. I would suggest various book outlets or your local library to find his books.

7. Westerns - Zane Grey, Max Brand, Louis La’ Mour
There dozens upon dozens of choices here, all of them excellent. I can think of nothing better than to spend a rainy day reading a good old fashioned western. I would add, that you know good is good and evil is evil, no liberal gray areas.

8. Additional Authors
Mark Twain, Robert E. Howard, O. Henry, Arthur O. Friel, Laura Ingles Wilder, L. Frank Baum, Francis Parkman.

Mark Twain- Obviously you recognize the name. My suggestion would be “Huckleberry Finn” and yes it includes racially insensitive words.

Robert E. Howard - The creator of Conan the Barbarian. However he had many, many other books that are a very good read.

O. Henry - A lot of short stories, but the best of them all is the “Ransom of Red Chief”

Arthur O. Friel - Very similar to R.E Howard, as he lived around the same time and wrote what is now termed “pulp fiction. He is best know for a wonderful book titled “The Pathless Trail”

Laura Ingles Wilder - The author of the Little house books which includes such titles as “Little House on the Prairie” I personally really enjoyed these as you get an idea of how Americans expanded westward and how they relied on themselves ant NOT on government.

L. Frank Baum - Best known for the “ Wonderful Wizard of OZ” from which the movie came into being. However there is a entire “OZ” series that is definitely an excellent escape for not only the adult reader but the kids as well.

Francis Parkman - He wrote “The Oregon Trail” which details the life of an early westward pioneer. Similar with Ms. Ingles-Wilder “Little House’ books in so far as you see Americans as they used to be; non-dependent on government and more dependent on themselves and their own spirit.

As I had stated earlier in this piece this is a very short list. Remember this is summer reading, and I want folks to enjoy the summer, along with good summer books. The reason I presented the more political reads first and foremost is to keep one in the loop. But I suggest that one does not limit oneself to living entirely in the real world, (unless that is your meat and potatoes). Since summer tends to bring on the escapism that exists in all of us, I had suggested the westerns and alternative history as well as the additional authors. Moreover, as you know there is a plethora of other venues and genre that will allow everyone to enjoy a nice hot summer day, a cool beverage (adult or otherwise), and setting in the sun, or under that shady ole’ tree in the backyard, whereupon you can get something the will exercise your brain instead of vegging out watching American Idol
