I have posted in the past my thoughts on abortion as I am a pro-life advocate. The voters of South Dakota have an opportunity, on election day via the ballot box, to vote on an initiative and to decide for themselves what they think is the right course of action. I urge them to choose life.
Two years ago a similar proposal was put forth and was defeated. Those voting against it stating that it was to restrictive and did not make for certain allowances for extreme situations. Fair enough, the people spoke and the supporters of the bill went back and returned with this year's proposal that includes the allowances that opponents had mentioned.
"Opponents say the new measure would jeopardize the patient-doctor relationship because physicians could be criminally charged for exceeding its bounds. They also argue that its exceptions are too narrowly defined and that it would force some women to carry an unhealthy fetus."
As usual there are those, who have stated their thoughts in the quote above that will always be opposed to limiting any form of abortion even paritial birth, (A certain Senator Government, comes to mind), however I firmly believe most Americans would like to see this practice pretty much curtailed and restricted.
I do question what their definition of an "unhealthy fetus" would actually entail. Would it be like Governor Palin's child? In today's medical field we are constantly hearing about doctors that are performing invitro operations to make corrections of a baby's heart, lungs and other organs and as such I find the abovementioned reasoning out of touch with what can really be achieved through medical care.
It seems to me that the Pro abortion groups are always on the lookout for some reason, any reason that would derail any attempt at restricting and redifining the practice of abortion.
