, I spoke on the divide that is slowly emerging within the conservative movement. It is becoming more and more apparent that, as I have said that those conservatives that have become entrenched in the seats of spokesman-ship of the conservative movement are no better than a different side of the same elitist coin that has the Librosociocrats on the other side.
They have likewise gone away from what traditional conservatives really feel, and believe, and ignore and treat us no better than their liberal counterparts.
Here is where I stand, and I am drawing the line in the sand.
I am a fiscal conservative; I believe in less government spending on programs of dubious value. I am against pork and earmarks.
I am a small government conservative; I believe that less government leads to more individual freedom.
I am an attaining of the American dream conservative; that is to say that I believe everyone has a right to pursue the ultimate in freedom, the American dream is not a right in or of itself. I feel that there is a big enough pie for all to have a slice; some slices are bigger than others are and I do not begrudge them that slice. I have the right to pursue my own dream and allow it to take me as far as it or I can take me. I do not expect the government to hand it to me, for they can only take it away.
I am the “Joe the plumber” conservative; I work hard for what I earn and I believe others should do the same, there are no free rides. However, I am not without compassion for those who through no fault of their own cannot provide for themselves. The need for a safety net is one with which I agree and therein I feel that government working alongside of private charities can accomplish a great deal.
I am the religious conservative; yes I do indeed cling to my God. He is there in my times of need and want by providing for me and strengthening me during my trials and tribulations. He shares in my joys and carries me through my sorrows.
I am a second amendment conservative; I believe that all citizens of this wonderful nation have a right to own a firearm should they choose to own one. I personally do not own one, but I know I can should I ever change my mind.
I am a Constitution conservative; that is to say that I firmly support and believe in the US Constitution as it was originally written by our founding fathers There is no such thing as a living and breathing document. These men were of great intellect, and while it is certain that they could not see into the future, their words and thoughts certainly were meant to carry onward into the future by making allowances called “amendments” that would alter the things that they could not foresee. Clearly they understood what the meaning of their own words were meant say and translated their thoughts into those words. To paraphrase; they knew what the word “is” is, and understood that words have defined meanings period.
I am a
