Turkey approves Lebanon troops
BBC
September 05, 2006
" Turkey's parliament has approved the deployment of its troops in Lebanon to join to the UN peacekeeping mission. Lawmakers, recalled from the summer recess for the emergency session, voted 340-192 in favour of sending the troops..."
I suppose that this is a necessary step for Turkey is the nation wants to show that it can be a team player in the EU.
However I find myself wondering just how much of an effective deterent the Turkish troops as well as the rest of the UN peacekeeping contigent will in disarming Hizbollah. The Iranian Proxy has already said that it WILL NOT disarm voluntarily nor allow itself to be disarmed by any force period. This comes amongst reports that both Syria and Iran are trying to resupply the terror wing of the Iranian military.
I fear that unless the blue helmuts are sufficiently supplied and well armed that any attempts to confront and egage Hizbollah in order to forcibly disarm them will meet with very stiff resistance.
